Why was it that, in developed Western economies, financial institutions like banks only began to reach deep into society during the 1960s and 1970s? The workshop “The Dynamics of Inclusive Finance” attempts to answer this question by focusing on what drove this expansion and why it did not come earlier, on the alternative services people used before, and on when, how and why formal services replaced those alternatives. The aim is to bring together a set papers on various countries and to make cross-country comparisons to examine the dynamics of inclusive finance. We welcome papers that deal with the demand for financial services by households and/or small businesses as well as with the attempts of banks, governments, and other formal or informal intermediaries to supply financial services.
